Hogryder,
You are right about the shorts.
The case you mention when a foot is caught under the exhaust pipe - i've tried that. Without boots. That's why i allways wear big boots. And i share your philosophy about life/risk - in fact i think almost every biker does also (i don't think one can say that about non-bikers - most people have the "dream", but they are scared). But sometimes you get surprised. Yesterday, saturday, i went for a ride ("in the blue") and found myself near a town where a girlfriend is living. I hadn't seen her for a while. She was very surprised to see me and my bike. And very interested (in my bike). She insisted that i should have my dinner at her place - but she had nothing to eat. She then suggested that we took the bike downtown. Well, we did so - she without helmet (she wouldn't have mine). She have never tried riding on a bike before - and she really enjoyed the ride. I was very surprised - i've known her for 25 years (we are both in the fifties). When i left her she was in a much better mood than before i (my bike!) arrived. Her migraine was gone. Now i think i will give her a helmet as a gift - and visit her more often.
